At ASL Productions, we incorporate animation into our videos for multiple different purposes. One video we produced for Nielsen, called “The Multicultural Consumer,” provides a great example of how we use animated elements to highlight the breadth of data Nielsen maintains on consumers. Overlaying those animations over the actual video allows us to visualize those associations between data and people.
Animations also provide a great method for explaining technical products and services that may be logistically complex to act out. In our project with SafetyNow, a company that helps contractors navigate risk, we implemented animations to stage demonstrations, which would otherwise have been dangerous and expensive to produce in real time.
Think about your typical production set: lighting, crew members, makeup artists all running around the busy swirl of the set. Now think of an animator’s desk: one man or woman, a computer, and well, very little else. Given the minimized resources involved, animated content ends up being quite cost effective to produce!
